On the 5th day of christmas, NellBell gave to me....

....5 golden loaves! Who doesn't love a warm piece of bread? Yuummm. Cinnamon Quick Bread - Katie Brown 4 c. flour 2 tsp. baking soda 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 c. shortening 2 c. sugar 4 eggs 2 tsp. vanilla 2 c. buttermilk Sift flour, b.soda, b. powder, & salt together. Set aside. Cream shortening & sugar together. Add the eggs to the shortening mixture & mix. Add vanilla & mix. Add 1/2 of dry ingredients mixture & 1/2 of the buttermilk. Mix. Add rest of dry ingredients & buttermilk and mix to form batter. Divide batter in 1/2 for 2 loaves. Combine 2 heaping T. sugar & 1 T. cinnamon. Make 3 layers for each loaf: batter, cinnamon, batter, cinnamon, etc. Swirl each layer with a knife. Sprinkle top with cinnamon but don't swirl. Bake @ 350 for 1 hour. Good served warm. Garlic Bread 1 loaf bakery bread (not sliced) 1/2 c. soft butter 1/4 tsp. paprika 1/4 tsp. garlic salt 1/2 tsp. celery seed Freeze the bread & cut crust off while frozen. Slice long ways in half & short ways in slices, being careful not to cut the whole way through. Tie with string halfway or at crease. Mix seasonings with the soft butter & spread over tops & sides. Bake in a pan with sides @ 400 for 18 minutes or until brown. Melt-in-Your-Mouth Pecan Rolls 1/2 c. packed brown sugar 1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened 1/4 c. corn syrup 2 (8 oz) tubes crescent rolls 2/3 c. chopped pecans 1/4 c. sugar 1 tsp. ground cinnamon In a small bowl, combine b. sugar, butter & corn syrup. Spread in 2 greased 8" square baking pans. Set aside. Unroll each tube of crescent roll dough into a rectangle, seal seams & perforations. Combine pecans, sugar & cinnamon; sprinkle over dough. Roll up jellyroll style, starting with long side; seal edge. Cut each roll into 16 slices. Place cut side down in prepared pans. Bake @ 375 for 13-17 minutes or until golden brown. Cool in pans for 1 minute before inverting onto serving plates. Grandma's Cinnamon Rolls 1 c. lukewarm milk 1/4 c. sugar 3/4 tsp salt 4 T. cooking oil 1 egg, well beaten 1 pkg dry yeast, dissolved in 1/4 c. warm water 3 1/2 - 3 3/4 c. flour Combine milk, sugar, salt, oil & egg & stir until dissolved. Add yeast mixture & stir again. Add flour gradually & as soon as you can knead it with your hands, knead until smooth. Grease top (w/ cooking oil) & cover. Let rise until doubled in bulk. Punch down & roll out dough about 3/4" thick. Spread with butter & sprinkle with cinnamon. Roll up & slice into 1" slices. Put in a greased 9 x 13 pan & let rise until doubled in size. Bake @ 350 for 25-30 minutes. When cool, frost with maple flavored frosting. 1 stick butter, melted 3 c. powdered sugar maple flavoring water Blend butter & powdered sugar together. Add maple flavoring to desired taste & color. Then add water to spreading consistency. Herb Bread 3 3/8 c. flour 2 T. sugar 1 1/2 T. dry milk 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1 1/2 T. butter 1 1/2 T. dill 3 T. parsley 1 1/2 c. water 1 1/2 tsp. dry yeast Place ingredients in bread machine according to your machines specifications. Cooking time will vary with each machine. You may also bake in the oven @ 350 about 1 hour. Makes 2 loaves. Hope your house will soon smell like baking bread! Enjoy! Recipe of the Day - veggies Thanks to Brianne for this recipe. {You guys are great =)} Seasoned Green Beans 1 T. canola oil 1 T. lemon juice 1 T. cider vinegar 2 t. dried basil 3/4 t. brown sugar 1/4 t. salt 1/8 t. pepper 1 lb. fresh green beans 2 T. butter Combine first 7 ingredients in a small bowl. In a large skillet, saute beans in butter until almost tender. Add lemon juice mixture, bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 5 minutes or until beans are tender.

These are sooo good with a hot bowl of soup...speaking of, hopefully a soup day is to come! :)

Foccacia Breadsticks

3/4 C and 3 T water
3 C flour
2 T dry milk
3 1/2 T sugar
1 t salt
3 T butter
2 t yeast

Dissolve yeast in 3 T. warm water. Combine with remaining ingredients. Roll out dough and cut into breadsticks. Let rise on greased cookie sheet for ~30 minutes, bake at 400 for 8-15 minutes, depending on size.

Mix and brush on hot breadsticks:

4 T olive oil
4 T parmesan cheese
2 t garlic salt
1/2 t italian seasoning

Ooh! I love home-made bread and these all sound delicious! My recipe is a new one for me. I tried this last week-end and it got a big thumbs-up from my husband. ~Bev~

Sour Cream Banana Bread

2/3 C. butter 1 t. baking powder
1 1/3 C. sugar 1 t. baking soda
2 eggs 1/2 t. salt
1 1/2 C. mashed bananas
1/2 C. sour cream
2 1/4 C. flour
1 C. chopped nuts

Cream butter and sugar together, add eggs and bananas. Beat until smooth. In another bowl, sift flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt together. Add dry ingredients alternately with sour cream to the banana mixture and blend well. Fold in nuts. Pour into greased 9 x 5 loaf pan. Bake @ 350 for 55-65 min. Makes 1 loaf.

I got this recipe from the October 2008 Southern Living and it is SOO good. It makes one loaf and Brian and I finished it in about 12 hours!

Blueberry Bread

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup butter, melted
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon lemon zest
2 tablespoons lemon juice

1. Preheat oven to 350°. Stir together flour and next 3 ingredients in a medium bowl; stir in blueberries.

2. Whisk together sugar and next 5 ingredients in a medium bowl until thoroughly blended. Add to flour mixture, stirring just until blended. Pour batter into a lightly greased 8 1/2- x 4 1/2-inch loaf pan.

3. Bake at 350° for 1 hour or until a long wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on a wire rack 10 minutes. Remove from pan to wire rack, and cool completely (about 1 hour).

Blackberry Bread: Prepare recipe as directed in Step 1, substituting 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen blackberries for blueberries. Proceed with recipe as directed, increasing bake time to 1 hour and 15 minutes or until a long wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.

Auntie Anne's Pretzels

1 T. yeast
1/2 c. warm water
1/2 c. brown sugar
pinch of salt
1 1/3 c. water
5 cups white flour


Combine ingredients and knead until smooth. Let rise until double in size. Punch down. Roll and twist into pretzel shapes, then tip in water mixture (1 c. water, 4 T. soda). Place on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 475 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Paint with butter as soon as removed from oven. Dip in cinnamon and sugar after butter.
